Beginner Golf Swing Guide: Start with the Right Fundamentals
Learning golf can be confusing at first – so many clubs, rules, and techniques! But don’t worry. In this post, I’ll walk you through the most important basics of the golf swing, step-by-step, so you can start with confidence.
🏌️ 1. Focus on Your Grip
Your grip is the foundation of your swing.
Use a neutral grip – not too strong, not too weak. Imagine you're gently holding a tube of toothpaste without squeezing it.
🧍 2. Get the Right Stance
Your feet should be shoulder-width apart.
Keep your knees slightly bent, and your weight balanced. Relax your arms and let the club rest naturally.
🔁 3. Slow and Smooth Backswing
Don't rush.
Start your backswing slowly and keep your left arm straight (for right-handed golfers). Rotate your shoulders – not just your arms.
🧠 4. Think Tempo, Not Power
Beginner mistake: swinging too hard.
A smooth, controlled swing creates better contact and distance than a rushed one.
🎯 5. Finish Your Follow-Through
A full swing ends with your body facing the target.
Hold your finish – this means you've stayed balanced throughout the swing.
Remember:
Practice slowly and consistently.
Golf is about progress, not perfection. You don’t need to swing like a pro on Day 1. Just build solid habits from the beginning!
Happy swinging!
